  The emotional reactions to grief will vary with different people. But most will experienc a full spectrum of emotions in the first months of grief. Emotionally, it is not at all unusual for someone to feel:

  • Anger

  • Sadness

  • Disbelief

  • Relief (when loved ones have died after prolonged illness)

  • A sense of the presence of a loved one

  • Confusion

  • Anxiety

  • Loneliness

  • Helpfulness

  • Forgetfulness

  • Oversensitivity to others' responses

  • An inability to focus or concentrate
